A somber day…

January 26th, 2009

January 26th 2009, this was Matthew’s “due date”. Kristi, Bradley, Maddy, Gabby and I went to Michael’s grave to visit, wiped the snow off his (temporary) headstone, and said a few private prayers. It was a quiet visit, snow all around, cold. It was hard to do anything else other than thinking of what it should have been. We should have been in front of our fireplace, Kristi, Mary Helen our midwife, and me. Working hard to bring our new baby to this world. But, God had other plans.

Michael, we miss you very much!!

laughter is back

August 19th, 2008

Well, it’s been almost 2 weeks since Michael’s early departure from our family and I watched some TV shows and Movie Trailers last night for entertainment (I was actually not working, amazing!!) and I found myself finally laughing out loud at things. It felt good. Things are creeping back to “normal” right now, I am even easing back into work, working part-time from home. Next week I go back to the office.

Today, we also picked up Michael’s death certificate, something I never thought I would have to see. My son’s death certificate. Tomorrow, Kristi is picking up his birth certificate. We are hoping it will be easy to pick out a headstone style, color, etc. We already have some wording we want on the headstone, but there are other things we are thinking of. A flower vase, what picture to have portray our precious Michael, etc. As soon as we have things picked out and get it installed, I will post photos.

Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and prayers, we really do appreciate it.

Today we buried my son, Michael Matthew Barnett. Below are some pictures of the grave-side commital from our priest, Father Michael Fritsch. This was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my life, and that includes placing my first son for adoption when I was 18 years old. There’s really not much to say right now, I’m just drained of every emotion I can have and just want to lay down and rest/sleep for a week!

Thanks to all that sent their thoughts and prayers, and especially those who could make it to the service and luncheon afterwards.

his time here was short

August 7th, 2008

Today, 8/7/2008, was the the most difficult day of our lives. We had to say good bye to our son, Michael Matthew Barnett. He was born at only 15 weeks old, but was able to live (which is unheard of) for 30 minutes after he arrived in this world. Our priest was able to be there, console us, and anoint Kristi before the birth. Then we were blessed enough for Father to be able to baptize Michael right after he was born, heart still beating! Our families were there for love and support.

I’m taking some time off from IU and iBarnett to be with my family and try to grieve the best way I know how. Continue to pray for us and Michael. He’s in heaven, having a great time!

God Bless.

promising news

August 4th, 2008

Well, after we switched to a much better practice of doctors, we have some promising news. They do see this as a risky pregnancy, but have seen this situation many times and are currently assisting a woman in a similar situation. They are very confident in their answers, answer us direct and truthful. We were very relieved to meet with them. Kristi worked for them back in ‘97 when they were first starting their practice. Kristi is still on modified bed-rest right now for at least the next 2-4 weeks, then we’ll have more blood tests, ultrasounds, etc to determine where we stand then.

The only down-side to this is that they are considered “out of network” for our insurance. But, I think it is worth it to pay the extra amount to have good doctors. The rest of the O.B.s in bloomington, well, just aren’t up to par with these doctors!

Anyway, some promising news and though they say at this point, they can’t say 100% success with the pregnancy, but they do feel confident in their “treament” and the problem we are facing is something they’ve faced before with many successes.

Thank you all for your prayers, and we shall continue to pray thanks giving and pray for more help as the weeks and months go on!

– may the phat be with you all –
